Astronomy Software

Stellarium is a free open-source software program which depicts in real time the sky as it appears to the naked eye, with binoculars, or a small telescope.  It includes over 120,000 stars as well as plants, constellations, nubulae and more for providing visual images for Astronomy education.

Science for Education

Science Netlinks provides lessons, tools, resources and benchmarks for K-12 science education.  The site is sponsored by the AAAS and the MarcoPolo Foundation.  The site doesn't just offer science related information, it helps to show you how you can integrate it into the classroom.  You can also subscribe to an e-mail newsletter letting you know about updates to the site.

Herbal Medicine Safety

Herbal Safety is a site run by the University of Texas - El Paso.  It offers scientific research into herbs and health related issues.  There are scientific papers, information about the medical use of herbs, and some special focus on the use of herbs in Mexico.

Earth Science Research

Earth-prints is a repository of information related to Atmosphere, Cryosphere, Solid Earth and Hydrosphere studies.   Materials available include thesis, papers, manuscripts, journal articles, conference materials, and web products.  You can also make your own research available to a global audience.  Sponsored by the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia with the collaboration of Programma Nazionale Ricerche in Antartide.

Botany Photos

Botany Photo of the Day offers a picture of a different plant each day.  For each plant, there is about a paragraph of information, the plant's scientific name, and links for more information.  There are also forums for discussing botany and you can have the photos sent to you via e-mail.  Run by the UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research.

Proteomics

PRIDE - Proteomics Identification Database is designed to facilitate research into Proteomics data.  It is a centralized, standards compliant, public access database containing protein and peptide identification.  You can also submit your own data and experiments.  PRIDE belongs to the European Bioinformatics Institute.

Marine Sanctuaries

National Marine Sanctuaries offers loads of information about marine sanctuaries, marine life and all sorts of information about the ocean.  You can take tours of the sanctuaries and there is education information for students and teachers, including pictures and movies.  There is also information about visiting our nation's sanctuaries and what you can do to help protect them.

Government related science information

Science.gov is a US government supported search engine linking users to scientific work in a wide variety of areas provided by Federal agencies.  The site currently searches 47 million pages and offers information for research projects including information about getting federal grants and science conferences.

Public Library of Science

The Public Library of Science offers free access to scientific and medically related journals.  The journals are all peer-reviewed and intended to facilitate scientific access to the wealth of information that is available online.

All papers are open-access which means that they are free for use with proper citation.  Also scholars and scientists can submit their own work to the PLOS for publication.
