The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy offers a substantial amount of information on important philosophical terms and people, including their influences, historical significance and bibliography.   The site is edited by professional philosphers and if you don't find what you are looking for, you can submit your own entries.  All materials on the site can be used by educators free of charge in their courses.

Philosophy Pages is a source of good basic information on Western Philosophy and philosophers. The site also includes a dictionary of philosophical names and terms, study guides, and offers the ability to download the entire site for easier use.

Eratic Impact for philosphy information that's not

Erratic Impact's philosophy research site is one of the most extensive I've seen.  There is a tremendous amount of web and text information on philosophy organized by history, subject, and author. Also there are sections on the history of philosophy, philosophy departments and web pages of various philosophers and more.  Essentially, if it's related to philosophy - you can find it here.
