Ask Dr. Universe all your questions!

Dr. Universe is a very knowledgeable cat who is willing to answer all sorts of questions about the world that your child may have.  Dr. Universe specializes in science questions but also is interested in other areas.  Some answers are short, some are more detailed and you can submit your own questions as well.  If you are up to a challenge, you and your child can test your intellectual skill with knowledge puzzles.

Information for expectant mothers

Waiting for Baby is a community of moms and expectant moms offering information to one another to help through the period of pregnancy.  The site offers news, discussion forums, and other helpful resources and web links useful both for new moms as well as those who have children.

Don't saddle your child with an unpopular name!

The Baby Name Wizard graphs the popularity of different names throughout history.  Not only does the site let you see how unique your name is, it will show you many different names over the same time period so that you can compare as well as get an insight into the American culture of the time. 

Surfing safely with kids

Kid's Search Tools is a collection of surf engines based on kid safe sites throughout the web.   Kind of like google for kids.  Not only can you search for good sites, you can search research souces such as dictionaries and encyclopedias as well.  Just the stuff for a child seeking to use the web to research a school assignment.

KidsClick!

KidsClick! is a web directory of sites selected for kids by librarians around the country.  The site tries to direct children to good site, but does not have filters to keep kids from getting to bad ones.  Still, you can be pretty sure that the links on the site are both kid-friendly and educational.

Yahooligans!

Yahooligans! is a web site dedicated to kids and their parents and teachers.   Brought to you by Yahoo, the site offers a search engine and a directory of kid friendly web sites.  The site also offers a plethora of educational activities as well.  There is a lot of material on the Web that is definitely not safe for children, so any place where kids can get information without worrying about accidentally going to places better to avoid is a plus.

Father knows best

It's tough to be a dad.  That is where sites like Fatherville come in.  Fatherville has information, links, and other great resources for fathers in all sorts of situations from single parenting to divorced fathers to military dads to fathers of new borns or children entering their teens.  Fatherville is a place where fathers can share their experiences, what works and what doesn't so that all can become better dads.
