Famous Trials in History

Famous Trials offers lots of historical information about important legal cases throughout history from the trial of Socrates to the Clinton impeachment hearings as well as information about famous [and infamous] attorneys in history.  Each case includes not only a narration of the historical event, it also includes primary source information about the case.  The site is put together by Douglass Linder at the Universy of Missouri - Kansas City.

Supreme Court Information

OYEZ offers a good deal of information about the US Supreme Court and its history, including past and present cases appearing before the court, information about the justices and even a podcast.  The site also offers a multi-media tour of the court [with more than 2000 hours of audio].

Law Dictionary

Law.com offers a Law Dictionary which allows searches to find the definition of a particular legal term or all the definitions that might include a particular term.  You can also look for definitions alphabetically.

If you have a website, Law.com allows you to use the dictionary on your own personal site.

Artificial Intelligence and the Law

The International Association for Artificial Intelligence and the Law [IAAIL] is an organization devoted to all areas of the interaction between artificial intelligence technology and the law.  It has members around the world, a journal and periodic conferences devoted to promoting artificial intelligence research.

Legal information from around the world

The Global Legal Information Network "is a database of laws, regulations, judicial decisions, and other complementary legal sources contributed by governmental agencies and international organizations."  Members of GLIN from around the world can submit legal texts in their own native languages which will then be put into GLIN's database for all to use.  Each article is also preceeded by a summary in English.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse

FindLaw offers information for the public and for legal professionals about the law, finding lawyers, and legal news.  Here you can find legal information based upon a particular issue such as a traffic or family issue.  You can also get information about particular cases and areas of litigation, business law, law school and working as an attorney.

Planning the final journey

The news and attention paid to the death of Terry Schiavo also made more people think about their own need to prepare their affairs and make their wishes regarding end-of-life decisions known.  The American Bar Association has put together a "Tool Kit for Health Care Advance Planning" offering worksheets, suggestions and resources for dealing with serious health care conditions and advance directives.   All of this is very important for contributing to peace of mind.

Law in a Brave New World

The Duke Law & Technology Review offers bi-weekly e-articles about the relationship of law and technology.  Recent articles have looked at P2P technology, Gmail, and nanotechnology.  Articles focus mostly on the legal aspects of these technologies.
