Searching the web with shared links

Jots allows you to keep a record of interesting links that you find and share those with the whole world or with select others.  You can also search for interesting links among those others have found.  This allows you a way of separating the search wheat from the search chaff especially if you limit yourself to links recommended by people you trust.  You can inform people about new links you have listed via RSS or directly from the web.

CSS Guides

Zen Garden is a site designed to help you make your own web sites more attractive through the use of CSS.  The site gives advice for CSS and lets you check out different techniques to see what they look like.  You can also click through various CSS examples to see how important CSS is to good web page design.  The examples are incredible.

Video searching

Truveo video vearch allows you to search the web for video related to your interests.  The engine finds video by looking at close-captioning information and RSS feeds.  If you produce your own video, you can get it included in Truveo's searches so as to make it more accessible.

Wink Search Engine

Wink is a new search engine based on the use of "tags" like del.icio.us and sites like Digg and Slashdot!  You search like you were using Google, but you can see which sites other searchers have voted as good sites and can vote for sites yourself.  You can also compare the Wink results directly with Google and synch Wink with your del.icio.us tags.

Astronomy Software

Stellarium is a free open-source software program which depicts in real time the sky as it appears to the naked eye, with binoculars, or a small telescope.  It includes over 120,000 stars as well as plants, constellations, nubulae and more for providing visual images for Astronomy education.

Science for Education

Science Netlinks provides lessons, tools, resources and benchmarks for K-12 science education.  The site is sponsored by the AAAS and the MarcoPolo Foundation.  The site doesn't just offer science related information, it helps to show you how you can integrate it into the classroom.  You can also subscribe to an e-mail newsletter letting you know about updates to the site.

Center for Jewish History

The Center for Jewish History offers an extensive amount of history about Judaism and Jewish culture with archives, resources for teacher, genealogical information and more.  The center also offers finding aids, electronic resources, and financial support to assist researchers take advantage of its resources.

Important 800 numbers

Hard to Find 800 Numbers provides a list of important 800 numbers to banks, internet companies and all sorts of organizations that can make it difficult to find their phone number - even if you scour their website.  Numbers are listed according to organization alphabetically and often more than one number is listed.  And if you know of a number that's not listed, there is a link to add it.

Catholic Personal Homepage

myCatholic is a website that allows you to make and customize your own homepage with Catholic news, links, Mass readings, lives of the saints and more.  You can pretty much add anything that is sent over the Internet via RSS.

Catalog your books online

Library Thing is an online resource for book lovers.   You can catalog your books online as a means of sharing your library with others.  You can also check that library from any computer with an Internet connection in the world.  You can tag books for social exchange, show others what books you are reading, look for others interested in similar books and search libraries and book sellers for other books that interest you.
