Proteomics

PRIDE - Proteomics Identification Database is designed to facilitate research into Proteomics data.  It is a centralized, standards compliant, public access database containing protein and peptide identification.  You can also submit your own data and experiments.  PRIDE belongs to the European Bioinformatics Institute.

Doing business in China

China Sourcing Links offers an impressive amount of links to resources about doing business with and in China - business strategies, banking links, economic news and more to assist everyone both with conducting business and learning more about the Chinese economy.

What lies on the other side of the globe?

This is an interesting application using Google Maps.  Many of us were told when we were young that if we dug a whole through the Earth, we would end up in China.  "If I dig a very deep hole, where do I stop?" lets us know for sure.  The application shows one of the many possibilities for research and presentation available in Google Maps.

Marine Sanctuaries

National Marine Sanctuaries offers loads of information about marine sanctuaries, marine life and all sorts of information about the ocean.  You can take tours of the sanctuaries and there is education information for students and teachers, including pictures and movies.  There is also information about visiting our nation's sanctuaries and what you can do to help protect them.

World Phone Books

Need to find a phone number in another country?  Try World Directories.  You can find links to Internet phone directories from countries like Argentina, China and even the United States!  Since these are links to National directories, the pages may, obviously, ask for information in that country's native language.

How to make stuff

Instructables is a website where ordinary people like you and me post instructions for making or doing all sorts of things such as a marshmallow gun, a bed from iron, or counting in binary.  If you are a particularly creative person yourself, you can post your own guides for others.  This site definitely shows the creativity of the human species - I'll leave it to you to decide if that is a good thing.

Internet Music restrictions

With all of the discussion over Sony's attempt to restrict music usage that led to major computer problems, here is the Electronic Freedom Foundation's report on the copyright prohibitions of other music companies, DRM, and how consumer's are slowly losing their rights.

Fighting jargon

The free program Fight the Bull is designed to identify jargon in your writing and help you to write more succinctly and clearly.  The program also calculates the relative difficulty of your writing with Flesch's Reading Ease scale.  I have not personally used the program, so I can't vouch for it - but it is free and could prove quite helpful as another tool for helping writers better express themselves.

Catholic Jukebox

CCAN Catholic Jukebox is a gathering place for Contemporary Catholic musicians.  You can listen to songs by many different musicians and if you are a Catholic musician there are resource for promotion, venues, recording, radio and more.

You can also listen to Catholic radio over the Internet.  All in all, the site is designed to help make more people aware of the great music available from Catholic artists.

Inquisitor Search Engine

Inquisitor searches the web as you type [primarily Google, but also Technorati, Flickr, A9 and Amazon.com] so that you only have to type in a few words, or perhaps only part of a word to get to the sites you are looking for.  The engine is designed primarily for those who are interested in a quick search for a site rather than a detailed list of sites and works primarily with Firefox, Opera, and Safari browsers.

It is at the time of this posting, still in Beta which means that there will likely be some changes.  Still, it's worth checking out - even to see how it differs from mainstream search engines like Google, MSN or Yahoo!
