Help Others Find Great Podcasts!

If there is a podcast listed on this site that you enjoy, be sure that you leave a comment on that podcast's entry.  Use the search engine to find a podcast quickly, if you need to.  Leaving comments about why you enjoy a particular podcast is a great way of supporting the podcast and helping others who come to this site to discover the podcast as well.  So, go ahead and leave a comment!

Voting Time Again

It's the start of another month - time to go on over to Podcast Alley and show your support for your favorite podcasts by voting for them.  It only takes a few moments but it means a lot.  You do have to give your e-mail address to receive the confirmation e-mail but no spam is sent.

Getting the word out

It is very important to get the word out about Catholic podcasts, there are a good deal of them available and even though some have ceased production - new ones are always appearing.  In fact, the diversity of podcasts is beginning to mirror the diversity within the Church.  So, if you find that a particular type of podcast is missing - you might look at starting your own to fill the gap.

But one of the big uses of Catholic podcasting can be to correct misconceptions like this article from NewKerala adapted from The Daily Mirror which notes the use of podcasts to brodcast sermons by the Anglican clergy but also wrongly makes the statement - "However, the Catholic Church does not approve of this method, and in his first Christmas message the Pope warned against technology, saying that it would lead to the 'spiritual barrenness' of people."

Interview with Fr. Bob Maguire

The Australian newspaper The Age has an interview with Father Bob Maguire of Speaking in Tongues and The Father Bob Show.  Father Maguire answers quite a few questions about Speaking in Tongues and shows once more that he is quite the colorful character.

Using myCatholic.com to get podcasts

myCatholic.com is a personal homepage that allows you to keep up to date on Catholic News and blogs.  You can also use it to easily "subscribe" to podcasts - here's how:

1.  Go to the myCatholic.com website - you will see a picture below of what it looks like, click to enlarge.Mycatholicmain

Note the "content" "layout" and "preferences", they will be important later.

2.  There are two ways to "subscribe" to a podcast via myCatholic.com.  You can either left click on a button to automatically subscribe you.  These buttons look like this:

The buttons will all say SUB MYCATHOLIC but they may be different colors.  Simply click on this button which you can find at the webpages at certain websites or in certain podcast entries here on Catholic Podcasts.  You will see that you have subscribed when you click on the "Content" link of myCatholic.  In the image below, you will see what it looks like when you subscribe to a podcast.  Click to enlarge.  Note that you can remove the feed later on this page if you wish.  Also note the empty box by the "URL:".Mycatholicaddfeed1

The second way to subscribe is to find the or buttons.  Right click on these buttons either on the home page of a particular podcast or in the entry of a particular podcast.  Then "copy shortcut" if you are using Internet Explorer or "copy link location" if using Firefox.  Then go to the "Content" page of myCatholic and right click and "paste" the shortcut/link into the URL: box. Press Enter/Return and you will be subscribed.

You can change the layout or the preferences by clicking on the appropriate link on myCatholic.com

Below you can see what the page looks like with "subscriptions" to Catholic:Under The Hood and the both the Disciples With Microphones podcasts and the separate podcast feeds.  Click to enlarge.

NOTE - You are not truly subscribed to a podcast this way.  Instead it becomes an easy way to know when a new podcast is up so that you can go directly to that podcast's site and click on the link for the new podcast.  Also, the "subscriptions" may be deleted if you delete the myCatholic.com cookie[s] from your browser.

Added Search Engine

I have added a search engine for the site to make finding podcasts easier.  You can find the search engine over on the top of the right column on the website.  Enjoy!

Basic Guide to Subscribing to Podcasts - Feedburner/XML

1. If you do not have iTunes or do not wish to use it to subscribe to podcasts, you can also subscribe using the xml/Feedburner.

2. Open up your podcast aggregator - I will be using iPodder/Juice as an example.

3. Hover your cursor over the button or the button for the podcast to which you wish to subscribe.

4. Right click and "copy shortcut" if using Internet Explorer, "copy link location" if using Firefox.

5. Click on the button to add a subscription in your podcast aggregator.  Paste the shortcut/link/url into the url box for the new subscription.  Click on image for more detail.Ipodderdescription

6. Catch up or download the new episodes.

7. Depending on how you have set up your preferences, you will be able to play your podcasts via iTunes or Windows Media Player or whatever media player you use.

Basic Guide to Subscribing To Podcasts - iTunes

1.  Be sure you have iTunes installed on your computer.

2. Click on the button for the podcast for which you wish to subscribe.

3. You will be taken to the Music Store of iTunes and see the entry for the podcast for which you wish to subscribe.  Here is the image for Catholic:Under The Hood as an example. [Click on it to enlarge it.]Itunesdescription

4. If you wish to subscribe, just click on the subscribe button in the iTunes entry or you can listen to an individual episode of the podcast if you wish as well.

5.  When you subscribe, the latest episode of the podcast will appear in the "Podcasts" file in the left-hand column - right under the "Library".  You can then listen to the episode as you would any other song.

Latest site news

I continue to work on the various podcast entries. I am now working on adding feed links to the various podcasts so that you can subscribe directly from here and don't have to go looking around for feed information.

I am also in the process of adding promo files to those podcasts that have made them available to me.

Welcome to Catholic Podcasts!

This is a basic blog with the purpose of providing information about Catholic podcasts and directing those looking for good Catholic media to the types of podcasts that they might be interested in.  Just because a podcast has been listed doesn't mean that it is currently being distributed, I would suggest going to the homepage of the podcast to see whether or not it is still in production or not.  If you have any questions about listening to podcasts or making your own, just leave a comment and I'll try to help you out or at least direct you to someone who can.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • If you need help subscribing to podcasts, just check out one of these links for help - or e-mail me at the address below. iTunes,

  • The most recent additions appear on the main page of the site. Later additions can be found in the various CATEGORIES.
