North America Volvo Trucks, recently announced a recall of certain model year 2011 and 2012 VNL and VNM vehicles for a relay valve defect that could affect the car’s brakes, which can lead to a loss of control and possible crash.
According to NHTSA, cars equipped with the Bendix ATR-6 traction relay valves may develop internal leakage in very cold weather conditions. This internal leakage can then deliver air pressure to affected primary or secondary brake components, which can lead to continuous brake application. This continuous brake pressure can lead to the car to overheat and even catch on fire. It can also lead to the wheels locking up during driving, which may cause loss of control.
NHTSA reports that this recall will affect 22,383 vehicles. Volvo has stated that a temporary repair will be made for customers until a permanent fix is developed. Volvo will begin notifying customers sometime this month.
As a California lawyer, I know how important it is for consumers to pay attention to recall notifications. When you are contacted by your auto dealership, it’s imperative that you take your car in, to avoid any potential accidents due to the car defect.
